I'm going to talk about a very famous book named How to Win Friends and? ?Influence People, written by Dale Carnegie, who was one of the most influential writers of all time. This book has been an international best-seller for decades and I believe you've heard about it or even read it.
As the name of the book suggests, it's mainly about what we can do to make others like us and strike up friendships. For instance, one simple thing it teaches people is to SMILE whenever we see others. This is extremely important because it's something we? ?hope to see when others approach us. Another thing I learned from the book is? ?that we can never win an argument so it's best to avoid getting into a quarrel with others.
The first time I read this book was 4 years ago. It was actually a birthday gift from my dad. When I came of age, my dad gave it to me, hoping I could learn from the tips in this book and become a well-liked person. Now that I think about it, this book was the most valuable gift among all the things I got on my 18th birthday,? ?although it was the least expensive.
I want to read this book again? ?because I'm going to graduate from university in a couple of months, which means I'm about to step into the real world where I will have to deal with? ?all kinds of people. Before that, I suppose I'll need to go over all the tips explained in the book and try to get ready for all the challenges that will come my way.
Describe a book you recently read.
You should say
what book it was
when you read it
why you read it
and explain what you liked and (possibly) disliked about the book.
what book it was
As you may know, many Chinese people love complex love stories and the is perhaps the most popular and well-developed of them.
when you read it
I have read the whole novel from the beginning to the end only once 3 months ago, but I like it and I felt myself loss when I finished that novel. I lingered at the last few chapters for long enough to get myself back to a normal life.
why you read it
It tells us the difference between Chinese literature and Western literature. At the end of each chapter, there is always a line which says ‘if the reader wants to know what happens next, please read the next chapter’. The line suggests that these chapters were each written separately over a period of time, thus, it functions as a reminder for readers to wait for the next chapter. These were the most developed stages of Chinese fiction writing.
And explain what you liked about the book
Moreover, the reason for the novel’s outstanding reputation and distinguishable status is that the novel is ‘the direct way to learn about Chinese culture. You cannot read Laozi or Confucius to understand Chinese society and Chinese people, while the book is the shortcut’. Therefore, the language used for this classical work is between formal and colloquial. In addition, the work was completed during Qing dynasty which is the last feudal empire in Chinese history, thus, the language is classical but also quite close to modern Chinese; it is intelligible for Chinese readers without any footnotes. Furthermore, exaggerated expressions are frequently used in the original text to show the author’s irony towards the society.
Question:
1.What kinds of books did you like to read when you were young?
2.Do you still keep these books?
3.Have you ever given others books as gifts?
4.What’s your favorite kind of books?
1. Oh, it’s a tough question, or it should be more of what books I don’t read. I have a really open mind to books and what genre they are. Classic literature, novel, autobiography, historical story, even romance-flavoured fantasy like vampires and werewolves…whatever.
Oh, it’s a tough question, or it should be more of what books I don’t read.
2. No. not really. Our home has been relocated several times,so I believe only a couple of my teen books survive the turbulent times. A lot of books were simply gotten rid of, some in my knowledge, some out of. I know for sure the works of George Orwell were well kept because they are my all time favourites.
學(xué)習(xí)relocate,survive這兩個動詞的用法,還有g(shù)et rid of和in my knowledge。
3. A book makes a fantastic gift, so a big fat yes. a book that I know the receiver will like and I can easily afford is often my top 1 choice of a gift.. I send a good English glossary book to a friend who is struggling for a better command of English vocabulary, and a great advanced English grammar book to a smart middle schooler I once tutored. Usually it serve as a parting gift and I would leave some little encouraging words on the tittle page.
學(xué)習(xí)動詞make,afford,serve的使用
4. Honestly.... I would have to go with Harry Potter, the fantasy fiction. Harry Potter was my gateway series to the genre of fiction fantasy. It was a thrilling ride when I first read it. It introduced me to a world of such potential and so many possibilities, that it was only natural that I would read books that have perfected J.K. Rowling's style. It's only natural that I would come across and read books which are miles above the Harry Potter franchise.
go with, gateway, introduce, such potential and so many possibilities.
