注意事項一：

常常有學生把準備好了的推薦信拿來讓翻譯，寫的比個人陳述還長，其實這樣完全沒有必要。浪費時間還費力不討好。推薦人只要就學生的特質著重突出兩到三點即可。至于其它，可以一筆帶過。這樣看起來才有主有次，輕重分明。

注意事項二：

推薦人一般都是請老師來充當。這種情況下，不用太多地提及學生平時是怎么做義工，從幾歲開始會彈琴，課下有多么發(fā)奮圖強爭分奪秒地學習等等。因為大學老師基本都比較忙，更有很多是身兼數(shù)職的，他們根本沒那么多時間去跟一個學生接觸，并且去那么全面深入地了解學生。老師就是教課，更多的是從課堂上跟學生交流互動，因此建議從這里入手。一個從教多年的老師，會很快看出一個學生對學習的態(tài)度和熱情，在那些方面有優(yōu)勢劣勢。作為推薦人，所陳述的內(nèi)容應該是很有針對性地去評價學生的表現(xiàn)，對于學生的優(yōu)點長處給予熱情的肯定并進行推薦，而不是平平淡淡地把學生方方面面都夸一遍。

有些推薦人也會是輔導員或者單位領導。對于輔導員，平時會跟學生見面較多，對于學生的生活，學習，心里等方面也比較清楚。那么在推薦時，就可以針對學生的性格，為人，或者學習工作的態(tài)度、方法從去說明學生的潛質和能力，從而進行推薦。而作為領導，肯定要從工作表現(xiàn)去說。例如創(chuàng)新，又或者勤奮虛心好學等。但同時，也可以對學生在處理人際關系方面進行贊揚。因為畢竟在社會上，除了努力工作以外，與人相處也大有學問的，而出國又意味著要面對世界各國的陌生人。

1. 你選擇的人應該很了解你。教授對你作為學生和個人的各個方面了解的越多，對你的推薦就會越真實、越好。

2. 在你要求你的同事、雇主或教授作為你的推薦人之后。與他們深入交談，解釋你選擇深造的動機。如果你心中已有一所目標的大學或學院，向你的推薦人詳細說明你的選擇，以及你為什么認為自己會是那所大學的一名優(yōu)秀申請人。討論你的選擇并征求意見。

3. 向你的推薦人提供關于你成就、簡歷或任何你認為重要的信息。

4. 請保持獨特。美國招生顧問威廉·陳（William Tran）在接受采訪時說：“推薦信越私人、越具體越好。我們讀到的一大堆推薦信中都會包括有一些通用形容詞，如“conscientious”或“intelligent”。這些修飾辭藻對我來說毫無意義，因為我希望每個學生都很聰明，能在課堂上積極提問，或者對學習充滿熱情。”

5. 不要將你的成就長長列出。陳說，那些包含了個人深刻的、其他學生所不具備的獨特經(jīng)歷，才會引起學術委員會的興趣。

6. 不要泛泛而論。一個帶有普通形容詞的字母既沒有幫助也沒有傷害，因為大多數(shù)學生都會使用這些形容詞，但在多數(shù)條件相同的情況下，性格平淡的學生處于劣勢。

7. 不要從“大人物”那里得到推薦信，除非你和他們共事過，而且他們對你的成就有第一手的了解。杰伊·巴蒂在他的文章《深入了解商學院殘酷的招生過程》中評論道：我們也有從參議員、首席執(zhí)行官和世界領導人那里得到推薦信。除非申請人直接為這些推薦人工作過，否則這些推薦信通常是非常模糊和缺乏洞察力的。從對你有直接監(jiān)督責任的人那里得到推薦信，他可以用對你的第一手了解來談論你的成就。
